Jawset?

  • Nov. 6th, 2009 at 11:53 PM
Okay, i'm sorry if this is a noob question
and I can't seem to find anything about it.

I'm thinking of getting a jawset from VanDykes
and also some taxi eyes ^^

How would I go about putting on the jawset and eyes the proper way?
Are the hinged ones better? If so, how do I manipulate it
so it opens smoothly?

Thank you!

Necks

  • Nov. 6th, 2009 at 10:45 PM
How do you make a neck more form-fitting? So far I've just been making mine by sewing a bib-like panel to the front and another to the back, then using velcro to keep them shut. However, they tend to bunch up or come out of the top of my shirt collar. Also, the velcro is difficult to keep shut with all that fur in the way, even when I trim it down (it's DF fur, so it's thick).

I've seen some suits with necks so nicely fitted that they don't need to be tucked in and never seem to budge. They look very natural with partial fursuits. It'd be awesome if someone could make a tutorial/pattern in Photoshop to illustrate the best way to go about making the necks.

I was also wondering if wearing a dog collar would be effective in keeping the neck flaps shut and prevent them from bunching. My suit is a snow leopard and a dog collar is kinda weird on a big cat, but it would be something she'd wear. I figure if anyone else has had success using a collar for this issue, then I'd be willing to buy one to wear in-suit.

Tail with spines

  • Nov. 6th, 2009 at 6:30 PM
Hey, I was wondering how people make those tails that have spines (i'm pretty sure made out of sculpy) coming out of them, like on Pandemic's suit http://www.furaffinity.net/full/2744710   I was thinking maybe put some holes in the base of the spines before baking them and then sewing them in?

Ok, I have absolutely no reason for this, as I've spammed this D.O.D doll multiple times in the past. rofl.

In which it was a limited edition to being limited to 2 dolls made in the world... but oh well. AoD makes one similar (the A.O.D Jimi with...'D' faceup? or something like that). Or I can pass up the elf ears and tan for the "D.O.D Luke" mold it was based on and just stick black hair on.

ANYWAY. It's kinda a self note of a future wish doll/character to create.

I looked at him and a character sprung at me, not that long ago... and has been RPed.
Jin... short for Jianshu... but it was based on "Ginger". In which case I got that word/name when I was looking at the comp thinking about what to name this dude (he was really supposed to be a side character to stirr up some trouble in a current RP) with the Food Network on... and it was either Iron Chef or 'Chopped' and they were talking about the ingredients they were using... all the words the said were totally ignored with the exception of when someone said "ginger". So... I mutilated the word into a name.
It was literally, "blahblahblah GINGER blahblahblahblah".

Anyway, he's another werewolf, like Hito... but he's an assassin gone pirate. All black.. but blue eyes (rather than gold). Extremely antisocial and rarely speaks...

And... thats my self note o_O

Oh well, I can't save up for much of anything right now.

A year and a half later. unicorn re-do

Hey all.  I'm getting ready to make my first full suit.  I've received a few samples from CR's Crafts, and I'm having trouble deciding on a color.  Right now, I'm leaning toward the #90052 Koala teddy bear fur, or the 90050 Brown Heather.  I also have some samples coming from DF.

Scotchguard & Fur

  • Nov. 6th, 2009 at 12:31 PM

How do you guys feel about scotchgarding fur?!

Ever tested it?

How'd it work?

Did it mess the fur up?!

Or do you swear by the stuff?!

Just pondering, a customer asked me to scotchgard his tail for him. I understand the concern considering his tail is 5ft long. Figured I'd ask here before I go buy a can and test it out myself.

Thanks in advance!

Wet

  • Nov. 6th, 2009 at 1:34 PM
I'm working on a mask and I want the fur to look wet.
The only thing I can think of is using paint to do it.. It needs to be painted and blended a ton anyway. But I figured I'd ask here to see if anyone has a better idea :]

This kind of look is what I'm going for

Antron Fleece Bodysuit

  • Nov. 6th, 2009 at 11:12 AM
I've seen some posts about this fabled "antron fleece" for heads. That's all I've ever seen it used for, too - heads, and puppets.

Is it possible to use it for a bodysuit? Have I not seen any because it's hard to get a hold of and expensive so people don't want to buy that much, or because it's somehow unsuitable for that particular application?

Girafarig finally finished

  • Nov. 6th, 2009 at 7:18 AM
Well the con came and went, and I finally got to debut Girafarig at Youmacon '09. I was so thrilled with how he turned out, and the reception he got^^ Under the cut I have some of my favorite photos, and the video with my walkon at the con masquerade. Lol I noticed when I came out I walked a bit fast cause I was so nervousXD Girafarig and I took home best craftmanship, which made my night, and all the hardwork so very worth it in the end^^; I am as attached to him as anyones favorite stuffed animal, I don't think I could ever be apart from him nowXD. My walkon time is 5:57 ^^;

Twisted Tail Problem

  • Nov. 6th, 2009 at 12:34 AM
Sooo...I just spent the last 7 hours making a new tail for myself (one that won't touch the ground and therefor stay clean), only to find that it has a very noticeable twist in it that is unwanted. I have no idea where I went wrong, because I made sure to keep my fabric pieces even while pinning and sewing. When I laid the unstuffed tail on the floor, it seemed to lay flat. The twist didn't show up until after I stuffed it, and got seemingly worse when I sewed the opening shut.

Short pile white fur

  • Nov. 5th, 2009 at 11:54 PM
Where is the best place to purchase a nice thick short pile white fur? I'm looking for something that I don't have to shave down, and preferably not seal fur. I can't seem to find any :[
Wednesday I went to Brooklyn, NY to be in a music video for the band The Pains of Being Pure at Heart.  The video, for Higher Than the Stars, is the first known production to use furries as actors instead of actors as (media misrepresentations of) furries.  Others appearing in the video, off the top of my head, are [info]foxwell , [info]yargo , [info]quentincoyote ,  and [info]xerxesqados.  (I don't remember the exact names of the others.)  Barely organized photos and video of the shoot are here.

Hullo fursuityauctions.

This is Greyface. He is on ebay.

He has 3d-y eyes, some sort of awesome handpaws, and matching stuff can be made for him if you'd like to commission that, too. Hopefully one of you folks would like to take him home; I have too many dogs in my house already. Thanks for lookin. :]
